Housel Middle School student Carly O'Brien earned a 1st Place Award at the 2026 FCCLA National Leadership Conference held in Washington, D.C. this week. This year's conference centered around the theme "Connected" and brought together thousands of members, advisors, and guests for several days of hands-on workshops, keynote addresses, and STAR Events finals.
Miss O'Brien's project, Fresh Start: Improving School Meals, earned the top spot in the Public Policy Advocate Level 1 category. The project was aimed at changing school lunches, and Miss O'Brien presented about her work in creating an advisory board to improve school lunches for the students of the Prosser School District. Miss O'Brien worked diligently throughout the year on her project, with the support of HMS FCCLA Advisor Hannah Perkins, presenting at both the Regional and State levels, which earned her a spot at Nationals in our nation's capital this week.
