Course Title: PRESENTATIONS GRAPHICS APPLICATIONS: CA 103
Course and Catalog Description:
This class will introduce the fundamentals of Microsoft PowerPoint. Students will learn how to create and modify a slide presentation, insert clip art, add slide transition effects, as well as more advanced operations such as creating graphic objects, producing advanced animations, and publishing web pages.
Course Credits and Hours:
Two Credits. Students will meet from 5:00 to 7:30 on Tuesday evenings at Housel Middle Schools Computer Lab. The lab will also be available for student access on Thursday nights from 6:00 8:00 PM. Meeting dates would be April 12, April 19, April 26, May 3rd, May 10th, May 17th, May 24th, June 7th.
Location: Housel Middle School, Prosser, Washington. Room 201.
Text, Tools, Materials, Technologies, and Special Fees:
No text book will be required for this class. Students will be required to complete a Prosser School District Network Use application and to follow district expectations for proper network conduct.
Teaching Methods:
Class will consist of weekly lectures which introduce key PowerPoint skills. Students will be provided time to practice the tools and strategies in independent and small group practice.
Student Learning Outcomes: Students will be proficient users of Microsoft PowerPoint.
Knowledge Objectives: Students will learn to present text and graphics clearly in a PowerPoint slide. Students will learn the basics of editing and picture formatting along with advanced animation and picture editing strategies. Students will also learn to publish their presentations to the Web.
Performance Outcomes: Students will be able to create PowerPoint slide presentations that include personal vitas, animations, audio attachments, and edited multi layered pictures.
General Abilities: Students will be able to transfer the basic skills of graphic manipulation, formatting, and text editing to other Office applications.
Assessment Methods: Students will be expected to complete three projects that incorporate the PowerPoint skills introduced in the class. Students will also be given one mini quiz on Office Shortcuts and a final class PowerPoint production test at the end of the quarter.
Grading: Projects will be worth 75 points. An evaluation rubric will be provided to students with each assigned project. The Shortcuts quiz will be worth 25 points and the final production test will be worth 100 points. Class attendance is expected. Each class seminar will be worth 5 points for a total of 50 points.

Late work: Late projects will be accepted throughout the quarter. Late work will be reduced by 10% per class day late to a maximum of 50% of the assigned value. Students must schedule time to makeup a missed quiz or test.
