    Over the past couple years, we have worked as a department to align our science curriculum to the Washington State Essential Learnings. We have selected new materials to use in order to deliver our curriculum. Our seventh and eighth grade science years look something like the following:

  • Astronomy: Study of the planets, sun, and moon; along with a study of the history of space travel
    • Major Project: Planet Book
  • Chemistry: basics of matter, atoms, chemical and physical changes, chemical reactions
    • Lab experiments and written work
  • Earth Science: Plate Tectonics and the Rock Cycle
    • Rock Classification
  • Cells and Heredity: Cell form and function, Cell division, Study of Genetics and how traits are passed on
    • Major Projects: Gene Monster, Cell Model
  • Solutions: Basic chemistry, study of properties of matter
    • Lab experiments and lab reports
  • Human Biology: Study of the systems of the human body
    • Major Project: Human body poster
  • Science Fair
  • Work, Force, and Energy
