6th Grade World Cultures

Course Description:

This class studies the major world cultural regions, focusing on geography and map skills.  Through the reading of nonfiction articles and completion of various research and map projects, students will gain experience in a range of Reading, Writing, Communication, Social Studies, Geography, and Civics EALR standards. 

 Skills focused on throughout this course include: Reading Comprehension, Vocabulary Development, the Use of Non-fiction Text Features, Reading to Learn New Information and Perform a Task, Communicating Ideas Clearly, Examining the Influence of Culture, Analyzing Historical Development, Using and Constructing Maps, Analyzing Geographic Information, Examining Cultural Characteristics, Understanding the Function and Effect of Law, and Comparing and Contrasting Democracy with Other Forms of Government.
