Physical Education (PE)
Course Description:
Housel Middle School’s Fitness courses offer a variety of activities and exercises that help students develop the skills necessary to continue an active, healthy lifestyle beyond the student’s school years. Activities include volleyball, flag football, basketball, pickle ball, bowling, soccer, softball, and golf. The students also engage in wellness exercises that help improve their cardiovascular endurance, muscular endurance, muscular strength, flexibility, and body composition.
Assessments are primarily based on participation, which allows all students the chance to succeed in the program regardless of physical skill. A small portion of the student’s grade is based on The President’s Physical Fitness Challenge, which are fitness tests administered once a quarter and measure students’ physical fitness levels compared to other children their age and gender. The purpose of fitness testing is to help students identify personal strengths and areas that may need improvement.
